LOCAL PARISH REGISTERS

The Society only provides transcripts of the original parish registers and due to wear and tear over time registers may be difficult to read as writing may have faded or the people transcribing may have interpreted a name differently to someone else.  It is therefore, always recommended when doing genealogy research to check your findings in the transcripts against the original parish registers.  These can often be found online at sites such as Ancestry UK, Find My Past or Family Search.  Please note Ancestry UK and Find My Past are subscription sites, Family Search is free to register with and use.

Banns Registers

Marriage Registers

Earby Baptist Chapel

Contains entries from 1795 to 1905 (main body of the register 1814-1870)

The register is of Births (not baptisms) and a few burials and is not in chronological order, some entries appear on pages which have apparently been sewn into the register.  This could be due to entries being copied from an earlier register or births being entered in retrospect as new members joined the congregation.

The main part of the register covers approximately 1814 to 1870 with only odd ones outside this range.

In the back of the register are a few burial entries.  Where the deceased was interred 'in the Baptist Chapel Burial Ground' it has been assumed that this refers to the Earby Chapel formerly off Red Lion Street.  In some instances other burial grounds are specified.

The Society is indebted to the Reverend Tony Taylor for the loan of the register for transcription.

The register was loaned to Earby & District Local History Society and has been transcribed by Bob Abel and Helen Homer in  2000.
